Valencia closed back up on the Champions League spots with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Getafe, and they ended the weekend in fifth place, just a point behind Villarreal. Visiting manager Quique Flores was returning to his old hunting ground, but his side were unable to build on a five match unbeaten run which included victories against neighbours Real Madrid last weekend and Athletic Bilbao midweek, the home side over-running them in the opening minutes. Mista headed an early chance over the bar before Rufete latched on to an attempted clearance by Nano and fired in a shot which deflected in to the net off Pernía. And five minutes later Di Vaio picked up a through ball from Aimar and cut past his marker to make it two from a wide angle.

Getafe's first real effort at goal came from an inswinging Pernía corner which Cañizares tipped over the bar just before the interval, but the locals went further ahead after the restart, keeper Aragoneses giving away a penalty on Aimar which Mista converted. Pernía pulled one back later in the half with a long shot which bounced past Cañizares, but they could do no more, and Rufete could have scored a fourth goal when he shot over the bar from Angulo's cross.
