Espanyol moved back up to fifth spot with a 1-3 win over Racing Santander, their first victory away from Barcelona in four months. Iván De la Peña was returning to his home town and he was to prove a nightmare for the locals before he was substituted to an ovation from the crowd near the end. After a lively start in which Dudu Aouate saved from Maxi and Amavisca and Kameni turned a Morán shot onto the bar at the other end, "El Pelat" sent Tamudo away for him to win and convert a penalty to put his side ahead. Benayoun levelled the scores though with a well placed header from Morán's free kick, and Morán shot just wide before Jarque re-established the lead with another header from Amavisca's corner.

Three minutes in to the second half De la Peña struck again, a pinpoint pass putting Maxi through for him to round Aouate and score. And the Spanish international midfielder created havoc from then on, sending Maxi away for him to shoot just wide and setting up Tamudo and Corominas for chances they were unable to convert. The result takes Lotina's side back level with fourth placed Betis, and leaves the Cantabrians back down in the relegation struggle, albeit still ten points above the bottom three.
