Mallorca kept their hopes of staying up alive after beating relegation rivals Numancia 1-2, and they ended the weekend seven points behind Levante. The locals had the better of the opening minutes, Moyà having to make a couple of saves from Juan Carlos Moreno and Pignol putting another chance wide of the post. But the Islanders scored twice in four minutes just before the hour mark, Campano setting up youth international Víctor for him to head his first goal past Juanma, and then crossing in for Iuliano to turn the ball wide of the keeper for a second.

The Soria based side didn't give up though, Moyà's quick reactions allowing him to push Juanlu's shot over the bar before he was finally beaten by a long shot from Carlos Merino. And Miguel and Palacios both wasted chances to save a point in a nervous last few minutes. The defeat leaves the locals firmly anchored to the bottom of the table, now twelve points away from safety, and they could be mathematically relegated as early as next week if results go against them.
