Osasuna beat Atlético Madrid 1-0 for the second time in four days to ensure their continuity in the first division for another season. Javier Aguirre rested most of the players who had beaten their rivals in the semi-final of the cup midweek, with only Cuéllar, Puñal and Delporte still in the starting line up. But otherwise the game was a carbon copy of that match, up to and including the sending off of Cuéllar for a second bookable offence ten minutes from the end.

The only goal came in the third minute when Aloisi got on the end of Delporte's cross to beat Leo Franco with a powerful header on the run. For the rest of the first half neither side made much of an impact on the opposing defence, with Fernando Torres slipping when presented with a rare chance, and referee Pérez Burrull turning down a penalty appeal for a possible foul by Velasco on Aloisi.

César Ferrando brought on Salva at the break and reorganised his formation, and his side got back into the game. Fernando Torres, Antonio López and Salva all went close, and Cuéllar did well to cut out Torres when heading for goal. Aguirre took off Aloisi to strengthen midfield though, giving a first run out to youngster Sota, and Milosevic should have increased the lead when he headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

It didn't matter in the end, and Osasuna had recorded a fourth straight win in a row (cup included) to move up the table to thirteenth pending Sunday's games. It was another blow for Atlético though, and the Pamplona based side have seriously damaged their hopes for a return to Europe twice in a few days.
