Bernd Schuster lost his job as manager of Levante after his side were defeated 0-1 by Málaga, a result which leaves the Valencia based team just four points above the drop zone. The locals had only picked up one point in their last five games, but they started well with Arnau having to save from Sergio García and the on-loan Barcelona striker turning another shot just wide of the post. But Duda gave a warning sign with a shot just wide of the post at the other end, and soon afterwards a terrible mix up between Pinillos and Jesule following a long throw left Baiano with the easiest of tasks of opening the scoring. And another defensive error from a sleepy Jesule almost let in Duda before half time, but with the goal at his mercy the winger inexplicably chose to cross to a colleague rather than roll the ball into an empty net.

Levante did improve after the break, Arnau making a spectacular one handed save from Reggi's header and Camacho shooting wide of target when free in front of goal. But they weren't helped by controversial linesman Rafa Guerrero, who decided that a hand ball by Fernando Sanz inside the area was accidental, and then signalled a last minute offside against Nacho rather than a penalty when Miguel Angel "clothes-lined" the midfielder in the area. Not the result they wanted, and within an hour Schuster was on his way, young B team manager José Luis Oltra being named his replacement to the end of the season. He will have to work quickly though, or his side will be in for a quick return to the second division.
