Getafe made sure of their place in the top flight for next season with a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Quique Flores's side started the weekend needing a win to be certain of staying up, but with Mallorca only drawing the day before, they were already mathematically safe before kick off. And there was a festival atmosphere in the Alfonso Pérez stadium, where an almost capacity 14,000 crowd turned up to cheer on their heroes.

With Real also safely in mid-table both managers made changes to their line ups, Flores deciding to give Michel a last run out up front before he heads off to Almería on a two year contract. And the striker was in the thick of the action early on, having a couple of penalty appeals turned down in the opening minutes. De Paula went close at the other end, and Kome had a goal disallowed after the linesman spotted the handled the ball in the build up to the goal.

Michel it was though who made the difference, taking advantage of a loose ball after the defence failed to clear Pernía's corner to beat Riesgo on the half hour mark, and heading a second before the break, again from Pernía's corner. Amorrortu brought on the new and the old on the hour mark, youngster Aguiretxe and veteran Karpin, and Karpin tested Aragoneses for only the second time in the night soon afterwards.

But it was Getafe's night, and the introduction of Craioveanu, who has decided to stay on for another year, brought the crowd to their feet. The result takes the Madrid based side level with their opponents in twelfth place, and the celebrations went on long into the night.
