Second Division A - Day 3

Terrassa are the new leaders of the second division pending Sunday's games after a 2-0 win over Córdoba. The Catalans took the lead when Jordi Navas headed a corner past Jauregui with a quarter of an hour gone, and David Gallego got the second after the break from Monty's pass. The nearest the visitors came to scoring was when Navas almost turned the ball into his own net, and they drop down in to the relegation spots with one point from their first three games.

Alavés beat Tenerife 1-0 to record their first win of the season. The only goal came in the second minute when Nené scored on the follow up after Keleman had saved from Bodipo, and Bodipo could have made it two soon afterwards when he headed a good chance wide. Fagiani hit the post for the visitors later in the first half following a short free kick, but when Raúl Martín was sent off for head-butting an opponent on the hour mark their challenge ended.

Cádiz also got their first victory of the season, beating Almería 0-1 in the Mediterráneo stadium to move out of the relegation zone. Local keeper Valerio had to be at his best to save from Oli's header with only ten minutes gone, but he could do nothing five minutes later when the ex Oviedo and Betis striker ran on to Fleurquín's pass to score. Armando did the rest, saving efforts from efforts from Luna, Iban Espadas and others to ensure the three points for his side. (11.09.04)

Last week's two leaders both failed to win on Sunday, leaving a five way tie at the top of the second division. Valladolid are in second place behind Terrassa after drawing 2-2 at Ciudad Murcia, a game in which Aduriz scored his sixth of the season for the visitors to give his side a first half lead. But "Spidergol" Ubeda (who celebrates his goals putting on a Spiderman mask) almost won with two strikes for the locals after the break before Hornos took advantage of a ball which deflected off the referee to equalise ten minutes from the end.

Eibar join the top two on seven points after a 2-1 win over Salamanca, who find themselves next to bottom as a result. Llorente opened the scoring for the Basque side when he got on the end of Mateo's free kick to beat Jon Ander, and Garitano made it two on the half hour mark with a header following a corner. The visitors pulled one back three minutes later though with a twice taken Arpón penalty after Cifuentes fouled Jacobo Campos.

Xerez are also on seven points after a narrow 1-0 win against Poli Ejido. Lekic scored the only goal in the first minute of the match after collecting a long pass from Cachorro, but otherwise the visitors were on top, Julio Iglesias saving the day with a fine display including vital saves from Víctor Salas and Pedro Vega.

Recreativo also won 1-0 against Real Murcia to join the leading group and send their opponents to the bottom of the table with three defeats in a row. Uche and Cheli both went close for the locals and Iván Alonso had an effort saved by Toño for the visitors before the Andalusians finally got the goal they were looking for midway through the second half, Rosu scoring on the follow up after Olave had blocked a shot from Manu del Moral.

Celta were unable to keep up their winning run though, dropping out of the top three after losing 1-0 to Sporting Gijón. Youth international Javi Fuego got the only goal in the second half with a shot into the top corner of the net, a few minutes after Nagore was sent off for the visitors for a second bookable offence. The referee turned down three penalty appeals in the first half, the first by Roberto on Sava and the other two in favour of the Asturians, one for a possible foul on Pablo Lago and one for hand ball.

Lleida join both sides on six points after coming from behind to beat Málaga B 2-1. The visitors took the lead in the fifth minute when Usero beat Edu following a short free kick, but veteran midfielder Stankovic equalised from a free kick on the quarter hour mark after Silva was sent off for a foul on Nakor. The locals could have scored several times before Nakor headed the winner after the restart, and Santos could have increased the lead when he hit the post near the end.

The other newly promoted sides all picked up a point, with Nàstic and Racing Ferrol cancelling each other out in a 1-1 draw. The Catalans could have taken the lead when Iván Anía failed to find the target with the goal at his mercy before the break, but Codina put them in front after the restart following a quickly taken free kick. Bayarri equalised though six minutes later to ensure a point for his side.

Pontevedra got their first goals since being promoted in a 2-2 draw with Elche. Javi Rodríguez headed the first from a corner and hit the post later in the first half, but Rubén equalised after the break and Nino put the visitors in front before Asier Salcedo saved a point for the Galicians with a strike in the last minute of the game.
