Celta celebrated their return to the top flight after one season away with a 2-0 win over Málaga. The Galicians had spent heavily in the close season to strengthen their side, but it was one of their veterans Gustavo López who started things off in the ninth minute with a fantastic strike following a short free kick outside of the area.

There was little further action for the rest of the first half other than a shot from Juan Rodríguez which Pinto did well to stop, but just two minutes after the restart Antonio Nuñez sent Baiano away for him to fire an angled shot past his ex team mate Arnau. The Brazilian striker refused to celebrate though out of defence for his old club.

After that the locals sat back and allowed their opponents more of the ball, but only an effort from Salva caused any work for Pinto. Celta are back, and the result took them up to second spot in the table for now.
