Deportivo La Coruña move joint top of the table, level with their neighbours Celta, after beating Atlético Madrid 1-0. Despite the result it was a lively match with many chances for both sides. Molina did well to keep out a Pablo header in the opening minutes, and Leo Franco saved from Diego Tristán at point blank range. And soon after the restart Molina tipped a shot from Luccin round the post, and a Munitis free kick almost caught Franco unawares.

The closest anyone came to scoring though was a long shot from Sergio which crashed against the crossbar. Fernando Torres brought another good save out of Molina with a header, but Scaloni tested Franco again with a long shot. It looked though as if Atlético were heading for their second scoreless draw in a row before Sergio set up Capdevila for the winner in the fourth minute of injury time, referee Daudén Ibáñez waving away claims for a foul by the goalscorer on Valera leading up to the goal. It may not be pretty, but Caparrós has given this side a new lease of life.
