A late goal from substitute David Villa saved a point for Valencia at Zaragoza. The Spanish international striker ran on to a flicked on pass from Mista to make it 2-2 just a couple of minutes after coming on against his old side, but refused to celebrate the goal out of respect for the local fans.

It was a lively match, with Angulo putting the visitors ahead in the first minute after Di Vaio set him up, and Ewerthon crashing home an equaliser just six minutes later. The Brazilian midfielder had to leave the field with concussion soon afterwards, but Cani came on to replace him and put his side ahead with a well placed header around the half hour mark.

Víctor Muñoz had to make his second substitution a minute or two later after César picked up an injury, and Toledo helped his replacement Valbuena out soon afterwards after Di Vaio looked like connecting with Mista's cross. But the locals took over control after the restart and only first class saves by Cañizares from Diego Milito, Oscar González and Celades kept his side in the game until Villa's late strike saved them a point.
