Osasuna took advantage of slips by the teams above them to move up into the top four thanks to a 1-0 win over Sevilla. Both sides had had disappointing results in the UEFA cup on Thursday, but it was the visitors who reacted the better, Kanouté hitting the woodwork (although then ruled offside) and Aitor Ocio and Kepa both testing Ricardo. At the other end only a couple of efforts from Raúl García caused any problems for Palop.

The visiting keeper was in action though three minutes in to the second half when he turned a shot from Moha for a corner at point blank range, and he could do nothing a few minutes later when David López picked up a clever back-heel pass from Webó to score what was to be the only goal of the game. After that Javier Aguirre shut up shop, especially after Clavero was sent off for a hard tackle on an opponent. Sevilla could do nothing, and their challenge ended when Kepa was also sent off with a straight ed card.
