Betis were another side to feel the effects of their midweek Champions League debut after they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Zaragoza. Local coach Serra Ferrer made no less than eight changes to his line up after the Liverpool game, but they came up against a brick wall as Víctor Muñoz ordered his side to sit back and defend. Only Dani caused any problems for Valbuena in the first half, and he had to leave the field before the interval after picking up an injury.

It was more of the same after the break, and Betis didn't have a real sight at goal until Valbuena stood up to Oliveira with a quarter of an hour to go. Serra Ferrer brought on Xisco and he brought a couple of good saves out of the keeper, but it was Contreras who was called upon in the end to stop efforts from Savio and Zapater which could have stolen the three points. Zaragoza came away with the one they wanted though, and they have now tied their first three games.
