Barcelona fell to their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Atlético Madrid in the last match of the weekend. The Catalans got off to a good start, Eto'o turning Giuly's cross past Leo Franco in the sixth minute. But ten minutes later the hosts were level when Fernando Torres ran in to head Petrov's cross past Valdés, his side's first goal this season.

For the rest of the first half it was entertaining stuff, Petrov having a goal disallowed for offside, Leo Franco saving from Oleguer and Perea clearing a dangerous cross from Xavi. But just a couple of minutes after the restart Atlético took the lead, Kezman losing his marker to meet Maxi's cross and sweep the ball into the net.

Midway through the second half Atlético were left with ten men when Pablo was sent off for a hard tackle on Eto'o as he advanced on goal, and Rijkaard took advantage to bring on Van Bommel. But the Dutch midfielder was unable to get past a packed defence when put through, and Eto'o and Edmilson also failed to find the target later on. Atlético had their first win, and Barça went home with nothing.
