Atlético Madrid moved away from the danger zone with a 0-1 win at Racing Santander in the next to last game on Sunday evening. The game got off to a lively start, with both sides trying their luck. But Racing's seven games before this one had only seen eight goals, and it soon became clear why as both defences dominated their opposite numbers. Local strikers Antoñito and Aganzo were both closely marked, and only a shot from Petrov went anywhere near either goal.

The first real chance fell to the visitors though, when Kezman's header was kept out by Dudu Aouate at point blank range close to the interval. And before the half time whistle Maxi finally broke through with a shot from the edge of the area, his first goal for his new side.

Things opened up at the start of the second half, Aouate saving a Petrov free kick and Moratón just failing to find the target following a corner. Leo Franco had to be at his best to keep out a shot from Wilfred Dalmat later on, but Kezman could have wrapped things up when he put an effort wide from two metres out. Atlético had done enough for the three points though, and the result left the Cantabrians just two points above the relegation zone.
