This season's revelation side Getafe returned to the top of the table after an amazing 5-2 win over Zaragoza. Bernd Schuster's team were already four up before half time, with Paunovic opening the scoring early on after taking advantage of a hesitant defence to beat César. Güiza added two in three minutes, the first from the penalty spot after he himself was fouled by Gabi Milito, and the second after picking up a long clearance from defence and rounding the keeper to score. Pulido headed the fourth from Paunovic's free kick later in the first half, and it could even have been five had referee Rodríguez Santiago not ruled out a strike from Riki for offside.

Up to this point Zaragoza had only had one real chance, Oscar González finding the net only for his effort also to be disallowed for offside. But just two minutes after the restart Movilla caught Luis García off guard with a long shot, and ten minutes later Toledo got a second when he deflected Ponzio's long free kick up past the keeper. Ewerthon even came close to reducing the gap to one goal soon afterwards, but Güiza almost completed his hat-trick when he shot just wide, and with five minutes to go substitute Redondo put the result beyond doubt after connecting with a pass in from Gavilán.
