Getafe drop to fourth after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Deportivo, who themselves are only a point now behind their opponents. Spanish coach Luis Aragonés was in the crowd, reportedly to watch Munitis and Riki, but it was Diego Tristán who headed home the only goal of the match from Capdevila's long cross midway through the first half. Prior to that Munitis had gone close after Tristán set him up, and the Galicians continued to cause problems for the visitors down the flanks after the goal, Luis García doing well to keep out Coloccini's header from Valerón's cross and De Guzman failing to find the target from another centre by Munitis.

Getafe were let off the hook just before the break when referee Turienzo Alvarez turned down an appeal for a penalty after Munitis was felled by Rivas, but Schuster's half time talk had it's effect, the Madrid based side finally getting back in the game. De Guzman was fortunate not to score in his own net when he turned a cross against Molina's crossbar, and Riki was unlucky not to win a penalty himself. And with the game coming to a close Capdevila accidentally bumped into his own keeper in the penalty area, Pachón picking up the loose ball and crashing a shot against the bar. Getafe had lost their second game in four days, but they were by no means humiliated.
