Celta moved back up to fourth spot in the table after beating Alavés 2-1, a fitting revenge for the Galicians who almost missed out on promotion last season after having three points deducted when Alavés denounced them for fielding an ineligible player. As a result Piterman and his side were given a hostile reception by the crowd, who even booed their popular ex player Jandro when he came on later in the game.

The match got off to a slow start, but Baiano (returning to the side after a one month lay-off) gave a first warning when he fired a shot against the post midway through the first half. And just a minute or so the later the Brazilian striker put through Canobbio for him to open the scoring for the locals.

Chuchi Cos pushed his men forward after the restart, and Fernando Vázquez responded taking off his front two and bringing on Jonathan Aspas and Javi Guerrero. Within a few minutes Guerrero was brought down in the area by Costanzo, and although the keeper saved Oubiña's penalty kick, Jonathan followed up to turn the ball in to the net.

The game seemed to be over, but just a minute later Astudillo got on the end of Rubén Navarro's free kick to pull one back. And although Angel and Jonathan brought good saves out of Costanzo after that, there were some nervous moments for the home fans before the final whistle. Pinto and his defence held on though to leave the visitors down in next to bottom spot.
