Sevilla were held to a 0-0 draw by Atlético Madrid, but still ended the weekend in sixth position thanks to the poor results of their closest rivals. The Andalusians were unbeaten in five games before this, and they had the better of the first half, with Leo Franco in particular keeping out an effort from Daniel Alves and Maresca firing a free kick just wide of the post.

Saviola had another chance to put the home side in front after the restart after a mistake by Zahinos, but his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. After that though the visitors came back, and Palop had to be at his best to save from Kezman. Maxi had a penalty appeal turned down after a heavy tackle by Javi Navarro, and Petrov went close with a free kick. But in the end both sides settled for a draw which left Carlos Bianchi's side still two points behind their rivals.
