Last weekend's leaders Getafe gave up top spot after losing 3-0 to Real Sociedad on Thursday evening. Osasuna had already moved above Bernd Schuster's side the day before, but any hopes of an immediate return to first place were scuppered when their opponents scored twice with only a quarter of an hour on the clock. Aranburu started things off in the fourth minute after the visiting defence failed to cut out a cross from López Rekarte, the midfielder beating Luis García with an angled shot. And twelve minutes later a hesitant keeper was beaten by Nihat after Aranburu laid the ball across.

Getafe's first real shot at goal didn't come until the half hour mark, when Riesgo had to save from Gavilán. Otherwise though they never troubled the young keeper, and Real went further ahead when referee Ramírez Domínguez decided that Kovacevic had been fouled by Tena, Xabi Prieto tucking away the spot kick after the protests from the visitors died down.

With three games in a week, Schuster had been resting a couple of his best players, but at half time he made two changes bringing on Redondo and Riki, who joined Güiza up front. After that his side pushed forward, with both substitutes and Pernía testing a confident Riesgo. But the hosts were never in danger of losing the three points and they move up to fifth in the table, now only a point behind their visitors.
