The match between Alavés and Espanyol ended 1-1, leaving the hosts still down in the bottom three and their opponents just out of the relegation spots thanks to a better goal difference over Mallorca. The goals came early on, with Sarriegi heding Rubén Navarro's cross past Kameni to open the scoring for the hoe side and Luis García replying for the visitors with less than a quarter of an hour on the clock. Kameni did well to turn Navarro's effort for a corner soon afterwards, but Costanzo was also in action later in the half to save from Edu Costa.

Rubén Navarro came close to restoring the lead for the locals soon after the restart when his free kick went just wide of goal. But with thirty minutes still to go his side were left with ten men when Sarriegi was sent off by referee Pino Zamorano for a hard tackle on Tamudo. Espanyol were unable to take advantage of the extra man though, and in the end they were lucky to come away with even a point as Kameni pushed a shot from substitute Aloisi on to the post in injury time. However they will be the happier side of the two, and the result leaves Alavés without a home win all season.
