Real Sociedad threw away a two goal lead for the second week in a row, coming away from Racing Santander with a point after a 2-2 draw. After Real Madrid pegged them back in the dying minutes a week ago, the Basque side were looking for a win, and they took the lead albeit against the run of play when Novo turned Nihat's cross past Dudu Aouate.

Real were struck a blow when their captain Aranburu was stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury after a heavy tackle by Oriol, referee Pino Zamorano not even awarding a free kick. And with the visitors having to reorganize, Racing could have levelled the scores before the break had Casquero and Juanjo not wasted good chances.

However it was the visitors who scored again five minutes after the restart, Aouate uncharacteristically spilling Barkero's free kick right into the path of De Paula for him to score what must have been the easiest goal of his career. But Preciado made three attacking changes, and one of the substitutes Antoñito pulled one back after controlling a headed pass from the right with his back to goal and beating Riesgo with a shot on the turn.

Amorrortu decided to defend what he had got, bringing on Larrea and Uranga. But within four minutes Uranga was on his way back off the park after a hard tackle earned him a red card, and a few minutes later Racing equalised somewhat fortunately after Mikel Alonso tried to clear Antoñito's cross and only succeeded in hitting his own keeper, the ball bouncing back in to the net to save a point for the locals.
