Betis stay at the bottom of the table, level on points with Alavés and Athletic Bilbao, after a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Espanyol. Both managers were under pressure to get a result, but in the end the defences won the day as neither side created too many chances. Xisco hit the outside of the post in the opening minutes, but the best chance of the first half fell to Tamudo, who was unable to beat Doblas after De la Peña put him through.

Melli was let off a possible penalty after the ball hit his arm in the area a couple of minutes in to the second half, and Fernando should have put the locals ahead when he got on the end of Xisco's cross to somehow miss the target. Edu headed another chance wide, and substitute Dani had a second penalty appeal turned down. But otherwise there was little to excite the fans, and both clubs are hoping that they can find strikers in the winter transfer market to turn their fortunes around.
