Getafe lost ground on the leading group after a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Racing Santander, and Bernd Schuster's side drop down the table to ninth. Both sides needed the three points, the visitors having gone eleven games without a victory and their hosts with only one win in six. But after Riki put a good chance wide, Antoñito got on the end of Felipe Melo's cross to shoot low inside the near post and open the scoring.

The Madrid based side pushed forward after that, but were unable to find a way through a solid defence. Their forward line had not scored a goal between them in seven games, and when the equaliser did arrive it was once again a defender who got it, Pernía making it four for the season with a well struck free kick which bounced past Aouate and in off the far post.

The Cantabrians appeared to have settled for a point after the restart, and their only efforts at goal were low shot from Casquero and a free kick from Melo. Pachón and Gavilán tried their luck, and substitute Güiza had a penalty appeal turned down soon after coming on. Referee Puentes Leira also disallowed a goal at either end, the first by Gavilán for a previous foul by Güiza, and the second by Antoñito for offside. But with the game seemingly heading for a draw, Calatayud misread Stephane Dalmat's long cross allowing Aganzo a simple header into the empty net.
