Deportivo moved up to third in the table pending Sunday's games with a 0-3 win against neighbours Celta. The last time these two sides met two years ago the visitors put five past their hosts, but Fernando Vázquez's side started well and pushed in to their opponents' half early on. However midway through the first half the balance changed when Pinto was sent off for bringing down Munitis in the area, and Diego Tristán slotted home the resultant penalty kick past substitute Esteban. The incident left the locals groggy, and Munitis fired a volley just wide before Valerón made it two, dribbling past Lequi and Sergio and steering a low shot past the keeper. And before the half time whistle Capdevila got a third with a long shot after Valerón's short free kick.

The local crowd were shouting for their hero Gustavo López to come on after the break, but Fernando Vázquez decided instead to replace winger Antonio Nuñez with defender Méndez, an unpopular move with some of the fans. Still Tristán could have extended the lead further, firstly when he fired a second penalty wide after Munitis was felled again by Lequi, and then with another effort from close up that he somehow missed. Celta's first and only real effort on target didn't come until ten minutes from the end when Molina had to tip Canobbio's free kick for a corner, a disappointing night for the supporters after such a big build up. Depor though had their third win in a row, and they ended the weekend three points ahead of their rivals.
