Osasuna stay within two points of leaders Barcelona after beating a depleted Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the last game of the year. Knowing that their rivals had beaten Celta two days earlier, nothing but a victory would do for Javier Aguirre's side. But they fell behind in the twenty fifth minute when Petrov drove the ball back in to the net after a long shot from Gabi came back off the post.

Both sides were missing key players, in particular the visitors who had to line up fifth choice keeper Roberto and were missing the injured Kezman, Ibagaza and Luccin, as well as Zahinos who was banned. Puñal was suspended for the locals and Valdo was injured, and although Milosevic passed a late fitness test, he aggravated the injury on the freezing pitch and had to be replaced by Romeo early on.

Romeo it was though who inspired the come back, his pass to Raúl García after Cuéllar had won the ball allowing the youngster to fire home the equaliser. And just four minutes later the Argentine forward put his side ahead after getting ahead of Roberto to connect with Delporte's cross and lift the ball in to the net.

Atlético had no reply though, and Roberto did well to keep out Delporte soon after the restart. Later in the half Delporte and Romeo both hit the woodwork, and Webó headed another good chance just over the top.But Osasuna had done enough to record a record ninth win match in a row, rounding off what has been the most successful year in their history. Atlético though are swimming in muddy waters, and with the team only four points above the drop zone Bianchi doesn't have much time left to turn things around.
