A surprise defeat for Deportivo La Coruña, who were beaten 1-2 by Espanyol even though the Catalans played most of the second half with ten men after Moisés was sent off for a second bookable offence three minutes after the restart. The Galicians started well, with Gorka Iraizoz (replacing the injured Kameni) making a good save from Romero on his first team debut. Capdevila also tired his luck, and Sergio had a penalty appeal turned down after he was tackled by Edu Costa in the area.

The visitors had only troubled Molina once in the first half when Luis García put him to the test, and after Moisés left the field, Migule Angel Lotina decided to replace De la Peña with Armando Sá. It proved to be an inspired decision, as the ex Villarreal full back swung across a corner which an unmarked Fredson fired home with a quarter of an hour to go. And just six minutes later Sá broke away on a quick counter attack, and although his first shot came back off the post, he reacted quickly enough to pick up the rebound and score.

Just a minute later Deportivo got back in the game when Diego Tristán steered a header down past Gorka from a Munitis cross, and the keeper had to be at his best to keep out a Valerón header soon afterwards. But Espanyol had overturned the form books, and only their second away win of the season came as a welcome relief for the under pressure Lotina.
