Real Sociedad manager José María Amorrortu breathed a sigh of relief after his side beat struggling Cádiz 2-0. The coach had been under question recently, but Gabilondo gave the locals an early lead when he intercepted a poor back pass from De la Cuesta to run on and score. Riesgo had to be at his best though to keep out Pavoni and Fleurquín later in the first half, and another effort from Fleurquín grazed the crossbar. But the Argentine midfielder turned villain after the break, giving away a penalty by pulling down Uranga allowing Xabi Prieto to score his fifth spot kick of the season.

By then the visitors were playing with ten men after Pavoni picked up a second booking a few minutes before the goal, and Prieto should have made it three a few minutes later. But the match was already over, and the crowd were in a festive mood when Nihat was substituted in the last minute, the Turkish forward probably saying goodbye for the last time after rumours of a move to Russia when the transfer window opens next month. Cádiz continue to slide down the table, and with only two points now from their last nine games they drop further down in to the relegation zone.
