Sevilla lost out on the chance to close up on the European spots after they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Getafe. The home side had only won one of their last eight games, and they were pushed back early on, with Kanouté and Aitor Ocio bringing good saves out of Calatayud and Maresca volleying a long shot just wide of the post. But Güiza (back in the side after Schuster had dropped him recently) tested Palop later in the half, and a few minutes later opened the scoring with a fierce shot which bent wickedly away from the keeper.

After that the visitors hardly troubled the local defence, and Riki almost made it two when he cut in from the right but shot just wide of the far post. Getafe were left a man short after Mario Cotelo was sent off for a tackle from behind on Martí ten minutes from the end, but even so Marcos Alonso's side were unable to react, and after Jesús Navas shot over the bar late on it was all over.
