Celta move back to within a point of the European spots after drawing 1-1 at Getafe. The locals were the better side early on, Pinto making a double save from Güiza at point blank range and Riki (who reportedly was being watched by scouts from Manchester United) hitting the bar with a long shot. Baiano finally brought a good save out of Calatayud at the other end, but soon afterwards Güiza and Celestini combined for Gavilán to open the scoring with a volley across the keeper from left of the area.

The lead only lasted for a few minutes though, Angel (back in the side after recovering from an operation) scoring from close up after Diego Rivas could only head a wide free kick back in to the path of the full back. After that the pace dropped off, and only a dangerous low cross from Mario Cotelo across the front of the goal caused anything for the fans to shout about. Bernd Schuster's side drop further down the table to tenth after only picking up four points now from their last six games, and after being knocked out of the cup midweek (as were their opponents), their season has taken a turn for the worse.
