Osasuna drop to third, behind Valencia on goal difference, after they were beaten 2-1 by a Villarreal side who had not won in their previous five games. Raúl García had given the visitors the lead midway through the first half with a long shot, and David López could have increased the lead early in the second half when he fired another shot against the bar, Romeo failing to turn in the rebound.

But Guayre was brought down twice in the penalty area in just over five minutes, the first time when he fell under a challenge from Javier Flaño and then when Raúl García put in a tackle, and both times Riquelme stepped up to beat Ricardo after referee Daudén Ibáñez pointed to the spot. The inicidents caused bad feelings between the two sides, and Guayre was lucky to be let off with a yellow card when he clashed with Clavero. The hosts move up the table to fifth, now just five points behind their opponents who have not won since the turn of the year.
