Celta move level with their neighbours Deportivo in joint sixth spot after beating Málaga 0-2. The home side had not won in eight games, and they missed an opportunity to go ahead when Pinto kept out Paco Esteban early on. However Antonio Nuñez opened the scoring for Fernando Vázquez's side, running past two defenders before beating Arnau within seconds of the restart.

Edgar should have equalized a quarter of an hour later but he missed the target with the goal at his mercy, and David Silva punished him for it when he made it two after the keeper could only push out a shot from Javi Guerrero. César Navas came close to getting one back when he headed against the bar, but Javi Guerrero also hit the woodwork at the other end soon afterwards. The defeat leaves Málaga down in the relegation zone, and coach Antonio Tapia is on the verge of losing his job.
