Deportivo dropped a place in the table to sixth after they were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Mallorca. The Galicians were on top from the start, with Diego Tristán having a couple of early chances blocked. And they seemed to be on the way to victory when Valerón beat Moyà with a shot on the turn midway through the first half, and then won a penalty which Diego Tristán converted in the twenty fifth minute.

But Mallorca came back after the restart, Okubo heading one back from a Jonas Gutiérrez cross and then doing enough for a loose ball to fall to Arango three minutes later for him to equalize. And the Balearic Islanders could even have gone ahead when Tuzzio headed against the post soon afterwards. There was more bad news for the hosts as well (and for Spain) when Valerón picked up a serious knee ligament injury which means he will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup.
