Alavés dragged themselves off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 victory over neighbours Real Sociedad. Dmitri Piterman's side had not won at home all season, but they went ahead ten minutes before the break when Carpintero fired a shot back in to the net after the defence only partly cleared a free kick. Up to that point the visitors had looked the better side, with Costanzo saving well from Nihat early on, and the Turkish forward was unlucky to have a goal ruled out close to the break for a more than dubious offside.

The home side started the second half well though, Riesgo saving at point blank range from Nené before Aloisi scored a second goal, following up after the keeper could only parry another shot from Nené. The visiting keeper was in action soon afterwards to stop an effort from Bodipo, and De Lucas came on for his first game after a long injury and fired a free kick just wide of the target.

Real were holding their own by then though, Nihat bringing another good save out of Costanzo and Skoubo heading just over the top. With four minutes to go though Aloisi ran on to Nené's pass to lift the ball over Riesgo's head, and it was all over. Stevanovic did get a late consolation, but it was not enough to save the head of his coach Amorrortu, who was fired and replaced by B team manager Gonzalo Arconada the following day.
