Barcelona shrugged off their midweek cup defeat to beat Mallorca 0-3 and move 12 points clear at the top of the table. The Catalans had won their last three games in the San Moix, and with Deco, Puyol and Valdés all returning after the cup game they were more than a match for Héctor Cúper's side. Okubo did manage to test the keeper with a long shot early on, but after that most of the play was at the other end, with Larsson missing a couple of chances when free in front of goal. And with the first half coming to an end, Giuly nipped in to collect a lofted pass from Deco and roll a shot wide of the keeper.

Referee Megia Dávila waved away a penalty claim by Giuly after he was brought down by Fernando Navarro a few minutes in to the second half, but the hosts were left with ten men when Tuzzio picked up a second yellow card. Rijkaard reacted bringing on Messi, and within two minutes he had his name on the scoresheet after combining with Sylvinho to shoot past Moyà. The young forward missed a sitter a couple of minutes later after Giuly left the ball on a plate, but soon afterwards he did get a second goal after running on to Ronaldinho's pass to chip a shot past the advancing keeper. It was a fourteenth league win in a row for the Blaugrana, and the result leaves the Balearic Islanders further down in the drop zone.
