Real Sociedad's new coach Gonzalo Arconada got off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Mallorca. The B team coach (brother of the famous goalkeeper) took over from Amorrortu after he was fired midweek, but put out a side similar to the one put out by his predecessor, only drafting in two of his club's new signings Viáfara and Stevanovic plus Garrido returning at left back. And in the end it was the new boys who made the difference for both teams, all three goals coming from players who joined their respective squads this winter.

The first goal came against the run of play in the thirteenth minute, when Skoubo picked up a long ball from Garrido to beat Moyà with a shot on the turn. Up to that point the visitors had been on top, and they were unlucky not to have a penalty soon after the goal when Okubo was felled by Garrido. With ten minutes to go to the break though Pisculichi took advantage of slack defending to level the scores with his first goal for his new club.

Skoubo should have restored the lead immediately after the break but he missed the target with the goal at his mercy, and Okubo could have got one at the other end when he shot just wide. The game appeared to be heading for a draw, but Arconada brought on Mark González and the on loan Liverpool winger picked up a cross from Mikel Alonso to score the winner just a few minutes from the end. .
