Málaga dropped to the bottom of the table after losing 0-2 to fellow strugglers Mallorca, and the Andalusian side have now only won one of their last twelve games. Gregorio Manzano was in charge of the Balearic Islanders for the first time after replacing Héctor Cúper midweek, and he saw his team take the initiative early on, Arango, Gutiérrez and Pisculichi all testing Arnau in the first half hour or so. The local keeper had to leave the field though shortly before half time after injuring himself in one of the actions, and reserve keeper Goitia came on to make his league debut.

Goitia could do nothing though ten minutes after the restart when his fellow debutant Ribeiro failed to clear a long ball from the Mallorca half, Pisculichi picking up the rebound and firing a shot into the back of the net. Bovio, Edgar and Litos all tried their luck as Manolo Hierro's side fought to get back in the game, and the visitors were left with ten men when Tuzzio picked up a second booking in the last minute of normal time. But with Málaga throwing everything forward, Campano picked up the ball on a quick breakaway and fired in a shot from the left of the area to ensure the three points and take his side two points above their opponents.
