Valencia fought back from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad 1-2 and move back up to second spot. The home side couldn't have got off to a better start, Skoubo picking up a long ball from López Rekarte to shoot low past Cañizares with only seconds on the clock. The keeper had to be at his best soon afterwards to keep out Novo and Díaz de Cerío, the B team top scorer who was making his first team debut under his old coach Gonzalo Arconada.

The visitors gradually took over the reins though, with Rufete in particular hitting the post from a wide angle. Arconada decided to bring on Xabi Prieto at the break, and he revitalized his side, almost catching out Cañizares with a long shot and then setting up Larrea for him to shoot over the top. With twenty minutes to go though Regueiro set out on a run down the left, and with Riesgo expecting a cross the Uruguayan midfielder bent a shot past him from a wide angle.

Skoubo came close to restoring the lead with an effort which Cañizares turned away for a corner, but a couple of minutes later a badly directed back pass from Larrea left Regueiro free to round Riesgo and score his second of the night. Valencia had extended their unbeaten run to thirteen games, and the chase is on to catch Barcelona. Real though drop back down into the lower half of the table, and they are now only three points away from the relegation zone.
