Celta took advantage of Sevilla's defeat to move back up to fifth after beating Cádiz 2-0. The visitors had been dropping down the table after five games without a win, and despite seven changes by coach Víctor Espárrago they came out quickly from the start, with Pinto having to be at his best to save from Enrique and Oli. The Galicians soon took control though, and after Varela cleared an effort from Canobbio off the line, Contreras headed them in to the lead when Jorge's free kick came back off the crossbar.

The locals got off to the better start after the interval, Baiano curling a shot wide and Canobbio also going close. Oli fired a shot over the bar at the other end, but Límia had to save from Baiano before David Silva made it two, picking up the ball on the right of the area to beat the keeper after a pass from Contreras had been deflected. Gustavo López came on to great applause and brought a late save out of Límia, but Fernando Vázquez's side had done enough to take the three points and send the Andalusians down into the bottom three.
