Real Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of a struggling Mallorca, and they ended the weekend still in third spot, now ten points behind leaders Barcelona. The "Galacticos" were still smarting after they lost 0-1 to Arsenal in the Champions League midweek, and López Caro put out a strong side, with Raúl Bravo switching to central defence and Roberto Carlos and Zidane returning to the line up.

The first chance of the game fell to Ronaldo, Prats unable to take cleanly his long shot, but Doni headed just over at the other end and Arango went close with a free kick. With just over half an hour gone though Sergio Ramos got on the end of Beckham's free kick to head his side in to the lead.

This was a new look Mallorca though, with Gregorio Manzano in charge for his first home game after getting a win at Málaga on his debut, and Arango could have equalised before the break when he rounded Casillas only to shoot in to the side netting. And seven minutes after the restart Pisculichi made it all square from the penalty spot after Tuni was fouled by Ramos.

The efforts from their midweek game started to take their toll, and López Caro had to take off an injured Beckham and then Baptista, Cicinho pushing forward as Salgado took over at right back and Raúl coming on for the Brazilian. By now the rain was falling heavily, and with ten minutes to go Arango ran on to a pass from Basinas to round Casillas and score the winner. Cassano came on for the last few minutes and hit the bar with a long cross, but the enthusiasm was not there, and the visitors trudged off at the end a beaten side.
