Villarreal moved back to within a point of the European spots after a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. Pellegrini's side fell behind with less than a minute on the clock when Pereyra headed a cross from Pisculichi past Viera following a short free kick. However after a slow start the visitors finally got going, and José Marí levelled the scores when he got ahead of Nunes to connect with Josemi's cross midway through the first half.

With the introduction of Doni at the break, Gregorio Manzano's side wrestled back control, and they were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty by referee Ramírez Domínguez when Quique Alvarez fouled Arango in the area. A few minutes later visiting keeper Viera had to be at his best to keep out an effort from Arango.

The visitors were starting to show the strain of their midweek Champions League match against Rangers, and they were let off another penalty appeal when Pisculichi was brought down later on. In the end though both sides had to settle for a point apiece, keeping up Mallorca's unbeaten record since Manzano took over from Cúper four games ago.
