Cádiz and Alavés did themselves no favours with a 0-0 draw, leaving the locals in next to bottom spot and their opponents just outside of the bottom three above Betis. With four players suspended and Costanzo having to return to Argentina due to family problems, Dmitri Piterman had to put out a depleted line up. But even so they could have scored in the first minute when Arturo hooked the ball just over the bar, and a few minutes later when De Lucas tested Limia.

Estoyanoff and Medina went close at the other end though, and in the first minute after the restart Bonano made the save of the night to keep out a fierce shot from Abraham Paz. Juanito brought a good save out of Limia soon afterwards, and substitute Jandro hit the woodwork for the Basque side late in the game. But in the end the two teams had to settle for a point, leaving both with work to do if they want to spend a second season in a row in the top flight.
