Valencia stay in fourth spot, just a point behind Real Madrid, after a 1-1 draw against neighbours Villarreal on Wednesday evening. Quique Flores's team went ahead with an impressive Baraja free kick late in the first half, but they were left with ten men soon afterwards when Angulo picked up a second booking. Diego Forlán levelled the scores with twenty minutes to go after turning in Guille Franco's cross, and Riquelme could have won it for the visitors had Cañizares not saved his penalty kick after Marchena handled in the area a few minutes from the end.
