Celta returned to the UEFA spots after a 2-0 win over Mallorca, ending a run of three defeats in a row and a goal drought of over 300 minutes. Both goals came in the first quarter of the match, Contreras beating Prats after the keeper had saved a long shot from Jorge, and Baiano making it two after De Ridder put him through on goal.

The first chance of all had fallen to Arango, who headed a long cross just wide, and only a couple of good saves by Pinto, the first at point blank range from Tuni and then from a dangerous Navarro free kick, kept the visitors from pulling one back before the break.

Canobbio came close to extending the lead when he chipped a shot just wide of the mark, but Pinto was once again called upon to tip a dipping shot from Doni over the bar for a corner. Iriney had a late effort blocked by a defender with the keeper beaten, but by then Celta had done enough to win. It was a first defeat for the Balearic Islanders since coach Gregorio Manzano took over seven games ago, and they ended the weekend just a place above the bottom three.
