Sevilla and Zaragoza came in to this match on Sunday evening with their minds on other things, the locals after a gruelling midweek win over Zenit St. Petersburg to secure themselves a berth in the semi-finals of the UEFA cup, and the visitors thinking more about next Wednesday's cup final than the task in hand. Juande Ramos's side were also fighting for a place in Europe for next season though, and the coach put out a strong line-up, whereas his opposite number Víctor Muñoz rested several of his key players with little to play for in the league.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, with both sides having penalty appeals turned down, the locals after the ball hit Movilla on the arm and their opponents when Escudé brought down Diego Milito, but the first real chance didn't arrive until shortly before the break when Sergio García produced an acrobatic shot which flashed past the post. With only seconds gone in the second half though García opened the scoring with the goal of the weekend, pulling down a high ball and beating Palop with a dipping shot from over 30 yards out.

Ramos went for broke, pulling off Adriano and Javi Navarro to bring on Maresca and Kepa, and within minutes Kepa could have scored had Saviola's cross been a little more accurate. By then though Muñoz had brought on his big guns, and Ewerthon felt he should have had a penalty when a slight push from Alvaro put him off a header from a yard out which eventually hit the bar.

It looked though as if the visitors were going to take the three points, but with the game already in injury time Gabi Milito miskicked a clearance up into the air, and Maresca took advantage to head the ball over César and in to the net, saving a point which keeps the Andalusians in fifth spot ahead of Celta in the table.
