Celta put an end to Betis's six game unbeaten run with a 0-2 victory which takes them back up to fifth in the table. Fernando Vázquez's side started well, with Contreras having to be at his best to save from David Silva in the third minute, and although Marcos Assunçao tested Pinto at the other end with a long free kick, Jorge put the Galicians ahead when he swept a shot past the keeper in the seventeenth minute.

Rivas came close to equalising when he headed a corner against the bar later in the first half, but Canobbio should have increased the lead when he burst free only to be closed down by the quick reactions of Contreras. Serra Ferrer decided at half time that his side needed a wake up call, and brought on Capi and Tardelli for Arzu and Varela. But Pinto was only called upon to keep out an effort from Edu, and with the game coming to an end late substitute Jesús Perera ran on to a through ball from Silva to put the game beyond the reach of the Andalusians.
