Real Sociedad moved away from the danger zone with a 0-2 win over a depleted Villarreal on Saturday evening. With the Champions League semi-final coming up midweek, local coach Pellegrini left most of his big names out of his starting line up and included five B team players in his squad. And they paid the price when the visitors scored twice in the first half hour, Mikel Alonso opening the scoring with a long shot which went right through the hands of keeper Viera, and Mark González getting the second with a low free kick which took a deflection off the defensive wall. Pellegrini brought on Forlán at the break and the Uruguayan striker came close a couple of times, but Mark González could have increased the lead with along shot just wide of the post near the end.
