Espanyol picked up a valuable point in their battle to avoid the drop with a 1-1 draw at Zaragoza, who they beat a couple of weeks ago in the Spanish cup final. With nothing else to play for, Víctor Muñoz's side were looking for revenge for that defeat, and they went ahead in the ninth minute when Ewerthon picked up a short pass from Diego Milito to beat Gorka. But Jarque levelled the scores after the local defence failed to clear Luis García's corner midway through the second half, and although the central defender was sent off in injury time for a second bookable offence, the Catalans held on to ensure the result.
