Osasuna closed up to within three points of Valencia after beating a poor Atlético Madrid 0-1 in the Calderón stadium. Although the first chance fell to Galletti, the visitors took the lead after Muñoz controlled a headed pass from Romeo to roll a shot wide of Leo Franco on the quarter hour mark. The locals did their best for the rest of the first half, Petrov (who had replaced the injured Valera early on) shooting wide and Galletti bringing a good save out of Ricardo, but their was no way through.

The chances petered out after the break though as Aguirre's side closed the game down, with only a speculative overhead kick from Fernando Torres and a long shot from Delporte keeping the crowd from falling asleep. Many of the supporters left the ground before the end, and Atlético's frustrations showed through when Ibagaza was sent off for stepping on the back of Izquierdo near the end of the game. The defeat virtually ends the home side's chances of even qualifying for the Intertoto Cup.
