Valencia's faint hopes of catching Barcelona ended after they were beaten 2-1 by a Mallorca side who are now virtually sure of staying up. The Chés were caught out when Arango finished off after a good run by Víctor in the tenth minute, and Cañizares had to save from Víctor before Angulo levelled the scores after David Villa set him up (the referee waving away an appeal for hands by Villa in the build up).

The locals could have restored the lead before half time, in particular when Miguel cleared a shot from Basinas from under the crossbar with the keeper beaten, and Doni did put them back in front when he latched on a long ball by Cortés to volley first time into the net. Valencia finally woke up near the end, with Angulo firing a shot just wide of the post, but by then it was too late and their run of five wins in a row had come to a resounding end.
