Sevilla took advantage of Celta's defeat to close to within a point of them in the table and consolidate sixth spot after defeating Getafe 3-0. With their side qualified for the UEFA cup final there was a festival atmosphere in the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, and a relaxed team raced in to a three goal lead by the break.

The first goal came somewhat fortunately when Pulido headed Martí's free kick back in to his own net under challenge from Javi Navarro, and Saviola made it two with half an hour on the clock after Luis García fumbled a shot from Maresca. Luis Fabiano put an easy chance over the top and then brought a good save out of the keeper before finally getting his name on the scoresheet with a well-aimed header from a Daniel Alves cross, and it was all over.

The visitors did get a chance or two after the break as Juande Ramos rested some of his key players, in particular an angled shot from Mario Cotelo just wide of the target, but nothing really to trouble Palop.
